All I want for Christmas…

It’s safe to say that all we want for Christmas this year is a boat. Our boat, preferably back in the water, if we get to be choosy.
And, it might actually happen!
The last couple months have been full of activity. Since our last update, we have new solar panels, wind and hydro generators, refrigerators, freezer, shore power chargers, and so many other little but very important things. The sail drives are back together and our props have been repaired. As you’d expect, we’re also continuing to find new things that don’t work.
Did you know that a lightning strike can destroy an anchor and chain? Me neither, but apparently it can change the molecular composition of the metal. I just know that when chunks of your anchor start falling off out of nowhere, it’s a pretty telling sign that something is seriously wrong.
We’re only days away from being ready to restep the mast so we spent this weekend cleaning up our standing rigging while it’s easy to access at ground level. It’s hard to believe but once the mast is stepped, we’ll be ready to begin sea trials.
It’s now been five months since mother nature took our grand plans and threw them out the window, but we’re finally about to get back in the water. It truly doesn't feel real! We are beyond thrilled with the progress to date and can’t wait to move back onto our floating home but know that we will continue to find issues for months to come.
As we get ready to spend the upcoming holidays with family, we could not be more grateful for this unexpected time spent together. We just hope that next year, we’ll be in a bit more picturesque location than the boat yard.
Wishing you all happy holidays!
