Boat Shopping

One of the boats that has been on our list since the very beginning has been a 2018 40’ Lagoon in the process of sailing from Panama to Fort Lauderdale. We reached out to the owner back in January and have been corresponding ever since.

Of all the boats on the list, it has the most extensive list of extras like a huge capacity of solar, lithium battery storage, wind generation, a really nice sail package with several downwind sails, exterior refrigerator/freezers, an OC tender and the list goes on-and-on. The owners had some maintenance projects to take care of before showing the boat to potential buyers. We were so excited to get the news last week that it’s finally ready for showings. My dad even decided to tag along to be an extra set of eyes.

We stepped onto this boat yesterday for the first time and it’s absolutely beautiful! It’s evident that the current owners have been exceptional at maintenance. It was as clean as it could possibly be.

The owners invited us to take our time exploring every inch. At least three times during our hour on the boat, Tom and I looked at each other with wide eyes and smiles from ear-to-ear.

The best part was meeting the current owners, a couple only about 10 years older than us, who basically did exactly what we’re about to do. They are selling the boat so that their son can attend high school. While Tom and I walked around, my dad chatted with them about their travels, things they like about the boat and the updates they’ve made along the way. It was immediately clear that we’re very like-minded people.

The boat is nicer than we ever imagined we would be able to afford.

As soon as we got back into the car to head home, we all remarked that this is an incredible boat that’s worth every penny of its list price. Leave it to my dad to give the best advice of the day:

“I think you should walk back over there, shake the man’s hand and tell him you’re ready to make a deal.”

Thanks, dad!
