If Crabs aren’t Ducking...
We’re continuing to march south down the Exuma island chain, with one more stop within the Land and Sea Park at Warderick Wells. Sadly, our time there was pretty windy but we made it to shore and hiked to the top of the hill. Flip flops were probably not the right shoe choice for the sharp, steep limestone but we made it up and down the hill without injury.

The next hop brought us to Staniel Cay. This was the biggest town we visited in months, with three small grocery stores and the Staniel Cay Yacht Club.
Staniel is a picturesque town with pastel-colored houses along the water and super friendly locals. We met up with friends for drinks, treated ourselves to a meal off the boat and walked the whole island.

We planned to stay at Staniel for a week but with a strong northerly blow coming, we moved to Little Bay at Great Guana Cay to put some land between the boat and the wind. We managed to beach Milton and walk over to Black Point Settlement over the weekend. The Black Point Yacht Club was another awesome stop for a cold beverage.

As the wind backed off, we sailed down to Little Farmers Cay. There’s a large sandbar at Farmers and we opted to squeeze in on the east side of the sandbar. Doing so at dead low tide was probably not the best idea but we made it without touching bottom. As a friend aptly said, “If crabs aren’t ducking, you ain’t exploring.” It did make for a very cool drone shot though!

We rode out the next blow at Farmer’s and clocked gusts over 35 knots during some of the squalls.
The further away we get from home, the more incredible the community seems to get. Little Farmer’s Cay Yacht Club hosted a “blow party” the evening after the storm, offering free conch fritters and half price drinks. A welcomed reprieve after a stressful 24 hours.
Cruisers are more active on the radio down here, the yacht club even checked up on all the boats in the anchorage throughout the storm. It’s very comforting knowing there are people out there listening in the event help is needed.
We’re continuing to push south, with the ultimate goal of ending up at George Town to pick up a few stowaways. More to come as we continue to march south and explore all there is to see along the way.
