This is Life, not Vacation

Our days in the Bahamas are numbered. We continue to make progress retracing our steps back toward the states and we’ve been reflecting a lot on the last two months here.
It’s very hard to describe this entire experience because we did so much. We got in a lot of sailing, caught fish, enjoyed drinks with the locals, met so many other cruisers, weathered storms in remote places, visited the turtles, rays and pigs, and watched just about every sunrise and sunset.
By far, the best part about moving our home to new places is that this is our life, not just vacation. We have had the immense luxury of time and we get to sleep in our bed every night.
Unlike a charter or vacation, when you have to cram in all of your activities in a fixed amount of time, we can choose to wait for the weather to work in our favor. Or, decide to stay in a place we really like for a while.
Honestly, it’s been easy to get paralyzed by the freedom. We can move to the next place today, or tomorrow, or a week from now. At this pace, it would take a lifetime just to see the Bahamas
The weather has been very abnormal for this time of year and has obviously dictated most of our plans. The summer weather patterns have also started so we’re seeing consistent afternoon thunderstorms now. We’ve had our first brushes with serious lightning since being back on the boat and it’s been even harder than we expected. The PTSD is real.
A fellow cruiser got struck this morning near Marsh Harbor. It hits close to home hearing someone going through those awful first steps of assessing the damage, especially so far from home.
It’s time for us to hit the road… or ocean? Anyway, you get the idea. We’re looking at weather windows within the next week or so to hop back over to the states.
We’ve done our best to capture the beauty of this place and there’s still so much more we haven’t shared yet. We’ll also be sure to document our crossing. Give us a follow on Instagram, if you haven’t already.
The Bahamas are an absolute dream and we will be back! Until then, we’re going to try to enjoy summer on the boat the best we can. The list of projects is long but our motivation is definitely getting back to these cruising grounds and going much further than we did this time.
